Abandonded places... empty spaces

Why are abandoned places so hauntingly beautiful?
Seeing the slow decay of a place so once joyful and beautiful is both fascinating and disturbing.
Fascinating because it is a rare site.
Disturbing because beauty should never die.

Suberranea

Today on Boing Boing, they point to Subterranea Britannica. This wonderful site of urban exploration (of the subterranean type) reminds me of Inside the Urban Landscape, a site that features shots from Montreal, Hamilton and Toronto. The local site doesn't have near as many world war II and cold war bunkers, but the photography in both places is amazing. So much so it almost makes me want to go explore the strange, dark and damp man-made spaces below the city. Almost.

(no subject)

You come to a ruined temple almost swallowed by the trees. The light is dimming as the day ends, and the jungle behind you begins to awaken....

Another glorious picture by stuckincustoms on Flickr.

LOTD continued

Beautiful things
Relativity (You Tube video, silent, 1m13) is an art project by Drzach & Suchy. Facinating to watch, the secret of how it was done is revealed at the end of the video. Thanks to Neatorama for the viewing pleasure this morning.

More on that Beautiful waterfall I mentioned yesterday. Seems it's in Canal City Hakaata, a shopping and entertainemnet complex in Fukuoka Japan.

Things I actually use
Lifehacker reviewed FEBE today. FEBE is a firefox extension that backs up all of your existing installed Firefox extensions. The latest version has additional features that I'm looking forward to trying out. Automatic backup of extensions never use to be a big worry for me, then again, I never use to have so very many extensions to back up.
At work I use:
  • Better GCal
  • Better Gmail
  • Delicious Bookmarks
  • DownThemAll!
  • FEBE (updated today)
  • Greasemonkey
  • Nuke Anything Enahnced
  • TrashMail.net
  • User Agent Switcher
  • Scribe fire. Just found it today. Must put it on my home machine.
At home I also use:
  • BugMeNot
  • IE View Lite
  • Personas for Firefox
  • Wesabe Uploader

How to tap a phone line

From Boing Boing today, a link to Wired's how-to wiki's how to Tap a phone. The article is a very straight-forward guide on how to ... well, tap a phone. They don't get into the morality of it. And they link to the Art of Hacking when the topic of Beige Boxes comes up. Ah the good old days of freaking.

Song lyrics
This song came up on my playlist this morning. I'd not heard it in a while. My favorite line: "We don't believe in you controlling we That's point three". As strange as it sounds -- I really like rap. It's the new ballad; assuming of course, the artist has a tale to tell, speaks clearly, and is clever. According to wikipedia -- Herbaliser has a new album coming out this year: "Same as it never was". Looks like I have to go album shopping (there's a few on the wiki list that I don't have). Whever this comes up, I really miss Sam's. HMV's good - but really nothing compared to Same the Record man when you wanted to find an old album.

Anticipation went to Ad Astra in Toronto

So, the gang went to Ad Astra last weekend. A very brief tale of their exploits appears on the AnticipationSF blog; but they didn't take any pictures.

So, does anyone have any photos of the table, Rene Walling or anyone wearing an Anticipation t-shirt?

I've visited the [info]adastra_con livejournal, and followed the links there. I've even done a serach on Flickr (where grimwire has an Adastra flickr photoset).
